Hardscaping

Hardscape elements define the permanent structure of an outdoor space: paving, decking, walls, steps, and any built feature that doesn't grow. It's typically planned alongside softscaping (the planted side of a garden) rather than as an afterthought, since drainage, levels, and irrigation lines usually need to route around or under hardscape before planting begins.

In hot, arid climates like the UAE, material choice matters more than in temperate gardens. Light-coloured porcelain and natural stone stay cooler underfoot than dark concrete or asphalt in direct summer sun, and proper drainage falls become critical during the short, intense rain events the region does get, since compacted desert soil drains poorly on its own.
