Composite Decking
Also known as: WPC decking, WPC
Composite decking is an outdoor flooring material made from a blend of wood fibre and recycled plastic (WPC), designed to resist rot and fading.
Wood-plastic composite (WPC) combines wood fibre with a plastic binder, moulded into boards that are installed similarly to timber decking but don't need staining, sealing, or annual maintenance the way solid wood does. It won't rot, splinter, or attract termites the way untreated timber can.
The trade-off is heat: darker composite boards can get considerably hotter underfoot in direct sun than lighter timber or than a shaded surface, which matters more in climates with intense, sustained summer sun than in milder regions where it's rarely tested.
It's a common choice for pergola flooring, pool surrounds, and raised deck areas in the UAE precisely because it holds up to heat and humidity without the resealing schedule timber needs, though lighter colours are generally preferred here over dark tones for exactly the heat-underfoot reason.
