Humidity Tray
Also known as: pebble tray
A humidity tray is a shallow tray of water and pebbles placed under a potted plant to raise local humidity as the water evaporates.
The tray is filled with pebbles or gravel and enough water to sit just below the top of the stones, then the pot is set on top so its base stays clear of the water itself. As that water slowly evaporates, it raises humidity in the air immediately around the plant's leaves.
It's a low-effort alternative to misting, which evaporates within minutes and does little for sustained humidity, or a room humidifier, which affects a whole space rather than one plant. The effect is localised and modest: useful for a plant sitting a little too dry rather than a substitute for genuinely humid conditions a species actually needs.
This matters most for humidity-sensitive indoor plants (ferns, calathea, and similar species) kept in air-conditioned UAE homes, where AC systems commonly hold indoor humidity at 30-40%, well below what many tropical houseplants would experience in their native environment.
