How Much Does Landscaping Cost in Dubai? A Realistic Price Guide
What a full landscape design and build actually costs in Dubai, broken down by phase. AED price ranges for design, planting, paving, irrigation, lighting, and shade structures, plus what drives quotes up or down.

Most landscape quotes in Dubai look confusing because they bundle completely different types of work into a single total. When you break a project into its components, the numbers make more sense and you can compare proposals on equal terms.
This guide covers the full design and build cost for a Dubai villa landscape project: what each phase involves and realistic AED price ranges for 2026. For ongoing garden upkeep costs, the garden maintenance cost guide covers that ground separately.
Design and planning fees
Professional landscape firms in Dubai charge for design separately from construction. This is the right approach. A quote with zero design fee usually means the layout is being produced quickly and the cost is folded into inflated build rates.
For a typical villa project, design fees run:
- Concept design (layout sketch, basic plant palette, reference images): AED 1,500 to 4,000.
- Detailed design package (scaled drawings, materials schedule, planting plan with species and sizes): AED 3,500 to 9,000.
- 3D visualisation and walkthrough: AED 5,000 to 15,000. Worth it for projects with significant structural elements such as level changes, pergolas, or pools.
Most firms credit the design fee against the build cost when the same company carries out the work.
Soft landscaping
Soft landscaping covers everything that is planted: lawn, shrubs, groundcovers, and trees, plus the soil preparation and mulching that makes it all work.
Typical cost ranges per sqm:
- Lawn (Bermuda or Paspalum turf, soil preparation and levelling): AED 65 to 130 per sqm. Dubai's native soil is essentially sand with no organic matter, so preparation adds cost but is not optional.
- Shrub beds (topsoil, plants, planting, mulch): AED 100 to 250 per sqm, depending on plant species and the size of stock being installed.
- Trees (supply, planting, staking, initial establishment): AED 600 to 4,000 per tree depending on species and caliper. Mature imported specimen trees can reach AED 8,000 to 20,000 per tree.
Skimping on soil preparation is the most common reason villa gardens underperform. Desert subgrade with a thin layer of topsoil on top will dry out in days during summer regardless of how good the irrigation system is.
Hard landscaping
Hardscape typically represents the largest single cost in many Dubai projects, partly because materials are expensive and partly because Dubai's ground conditions sometimes need more preparation than expected.
Typical installed costs:
- Concrete block paving: AED 85 to 150 per sqm.
- Porcelain or natural stone paving: AED 180 to 380 per sqm depending on material and format.
- Raised planting beds (blockwork, rendered finish): AED 600 to 1,300 per linear metre.
- Retaining walls (for level changes): AED 800 to 2,000 per linear metre depending on height and specification.
- Gravel paths and zones: AED 40 to 90 per sqm, making them the most cost-effective hard surface option.
Level changes add disproportionate cost. Two stepped terraces require structural engineering, earthworks, and drainage design before the visible finish work begins.
Irrigation
A proper irrigation system is not optional in Dubai. A planted garden without one will not survive past June.
- Basic drip system for a small garden (under 150 sqm of planted area): AED 7,000 to 16,000.
- Zoned system with separate lawn sprinklers, drip for beds, and a quality timer controller: AED 16,000 to 40,000.
- Smart controller with app access and soil-moisture input: AED 2,500 to 6,000 as an add-on.
Irrigation installed during a new landscape build is significantly cheaper than retrofitting it later, because conduits are run before paving is laid. Our irrigation systems guide covers the drip vs sprinkler decision in detail.
Outdoor lighting
Like irrigation, lighting is cheapest to specify at construction stage when conduits go in before paving.
- Basic path and uplighting package (12 to 20 fittings, low-voltage transformer, cabling): AED 7,000 to 18,000.
- Comprehensive scheme (in-ground spots, tree uplighting, wall washing, dining area lighting): AED 20,000 to 55,000.
- Smart LED system with scene control and app access: add AED 5,000 to 12,000 to any of the above.
Use IP65-rated fittings as a minimum for any outdoor installation. In coastal areas or near pools, IP67 or IP68 is worth the small price difference.
Pergola or shade structure
- Aluminium fixed-roof pergola (15 to 20 sqm): AED 15,000 to 30,000.
- Aluminium louvre pergola with motorised adjustable blades (20 sqm): AED 38,000 to 70,000.
- Hardwood or WPC pergola (15 to 20 sqm): AED 22,000 to 55,000.
- Tensile fabric shade sail: AED 4,000 to 18,000 depending on size and anchoring.
See the pergola guide for a full material and roof type comparison.
What drives costs up
Four factors reliably push a project over its initial estimate:
- Soil condition. Development-phase infill with no organic content requires full soil reconstruction across the planted area.
- Large plots or complex zoning. Every additional irrigation zone, lighting circuit, and hardscape material adds co-ordination and labour time.
- Imported specimen plants. A single mature olive or cycad from Europe can cost more than the entire planting budget for a standard villa.
- Level changes. Stepped gardens need structural design and earthworks before visible construction begins.
What keeps costs down
- Choosing regionally sourced plants over imports.
- Keeping the hardscape palette simple: one or two materials rather than four.
- Running irrigation conduits before paving is laid.
- Phasing the project: complete the structure and irrigation in year one, add specimen plants and detailed planting in year two once the basics are established.
- Avoiding scope changes once groundwork has started.
A rough cost-per-sqm guide
For a complete landscape project covering design, soft and hard landscaping, irrigation, lighting, and a shade structure:
- Basic garden (simple planting, standard paving, drip irrigation): AED 200 to 350 per sqm of total garden area.
- Mid-range project (quality paving, mixed planting, smart irrigation, basic pergola): AED 350 to 600 per sqm.
- High-specification project (premium materials, specimen trees, full lighting, louvre pergola): AED 600 to 1,200 per sqm.
These are indicative ranges. Your actual number depends on soil state, existing site conditions, and the specific scope.
Getting an accurate quote
A reliable fixed-price proposal for a full landscape project includes: a scaled site plan, a plant schedule listing species, sizes, and quantities, a materials schedule for all hard surfaces and structures, an irrigation layout with zone count, an itemised cost breakdown by phase, a payment schedule tied to construction milestones, and a note on establishment care for the first growing season.
If a proposal does not include a plant list, ask for it before signing. A contractor who cannot specify plants at proposal stage will substitute cheaper stock once work begins.
